Tri-County Construction Labor-Management Council (TRICON) and Peoria Area Labor Management (PALM) recognized several Peoria area construction professionals and community members during their 30th Annual Awards Dinner, held Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Itoo Hall in Peoria.

This year’s “Build a Better Community Award” presented by GPCSA Executive Director, Dana Oaks, and Executive Director of WCIBTC, Clint Drury, went to three individual recipients:  Dan Barrett is a member of Laborers Local #165 and a field service technician at Illinois American Water; Mayor Jim Ardis; and Sid Ruckriegel, businessman, volunteer and  Peoria at-large City Councilman.  All three recipients are strong believers in giving back to the community.

Matt Bartolo, Laborers Local #165 Business Agent, received PALM’s “2017 Excellence in Labor-Management Cooperation Award.”  This award is presented to an individual, labor-management team or organization that exemplifies cooperative labor-management relations and practices in Central Illinois.  The recipient is chosen for additional qualities, including collaborative spirit, community service, and respect for others.  This year’s award was presented by PALM co-chair, Ron Cox of ATU Local #416.

Roger Goodson, senior manager of field services and production for the Northern Division of Illinois American Water was named the “2017 Construction Person of the Year.”  This annual award recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions to the union construction industry, especially by improving labor-management relationships.  The 2016 Construction Person of the Year, Marty Helfers of the Steamfitters Local #353 and retired Executive Director of West Central Illinois Building & Construction Trade Council, prsented this year’s award.

Superior craftsmanship is the signature of union construction.  It represents expert skills, ongoing training, good work ethic, teamwork, and commitment to quality.  TRICON celebrates some of Central Illinois’ finest union workers with it’s “Craftsmanship Award.”  Matt Bender of Carpenters Local #237 presented Sean Wilson with this year’s Craftsmanship Award.  Sean is a member of Cement Masons Local #12 and serves as General Foreman for River City Construction, LLC.  Sean takes great pride in his work, as well as, the work of his team.  Sean is not afraid to get his hands dirty.  He makes certain that each River City Construction project is adequately staffed to ensure consistent, on-time and on budget jobs, which makes him an excellent leader of finishers.

TRICON promotes safety within the union construction industry by recognizing workers each year who go above and beyond in their commitment to providing a safe working environment.  Dennis Higdon, Mid-Illinois Companies, Corp., and Deb Johnigk, OSHA-10 instructor for TRICON Work-Base Learning Program, presented the following individuals with TRICON’s “Safety Award”:
